It was a three day two night camp at Pulau Ubin. For me, this camp was like any other camp except the fact that we camped on an island and got to do more adventurous activities. The only down side of the camp was, like everyone said, getting bitten by insects. Is not that we dislike them a lot but they affected our concentration when doing a task as we have to scratch the affected area almost every 5mins. But that’s the negative part of all camps I guess, no matter where you camp. This camp has also helped me realize how important working as a team is. In some activities, we find ourselves cheering on our group mates and in others, being cheered on. Some activities also push our fears to the limit and require us to go beyond our fear to accomplish the task or activity at hand. Unfortunately for me, my fear of heights got the better of me and I couldn’t complete the task. That’s when your friends come into the picture and they try their best to cheer you up. That is why friendship is one of the values that I have understood from this camp. Another value learnt was respect. Respect can come in many forms- Respecting authority, respecting decisions made and even respecting yourself. However, we learnt that the hard way when we got yelled at, screamed at, on the morning of the last day. All of us got an earful from the CIs as we didn’t respect authority. Frankly speaking, I felt that it’s a bit unfair for those who did what was right to be scolded as well. Well maybe it’s because they want us to have the one for all and all for one spirit so I guess that’s the reason for their actions. During the whole length of the camp, everyone kind of missed each other as we were used to doing stuff as a squad. Overall, this is one of the camps that I feel has taught me a lot of values that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
