" The training for NPAP started as early as 2 February 2009 this year. Once I heard that I was selected to represent the school with 2 other squad mates and 3 other seniors at an annual parade down at Home Team Academy, I was pretty much shocked as out of 42 people, I am selected. And I was not in the supporting contingent, but a flag contingent. This means, I have to be holding our school flag.
The first training was a mystery to a Secondary 2 cadet. We gathered at Admiralty Secondary and set off to Home Team Academy. We alighted from the bus, and saw a large group of cadets gathering around the grandstand. The flag contingents were separated away from the supporting contingents. And we got extra things to draw out, flag hoister and a pole.
What surprises me on the first day was a tea-break.
Training was rather tough, especially as the event draws nearer. Field-Instructors did their best to train us up to standard. The actual parade came in a flash. We arrived early in the morning. Did some recap on what is going to happen in the later part of the day. The event was a much of a success. The whole contingent shared the same laughter and sorrows for the past trainings. Before the training, I was still a new cadet, after this I learnt that, the whole event needs our full participation in order to make it a success as the event is not just a one man show. Teamwork is the key criteria."
